Chapter 55: The Couple Ranking is Released
"Yes, they're still hiring. If you have time, you can give it a try. I heard it's backed by an overseas publisher, and they're preparing to launch it on the App Store. I only heard that, haha."
Geng Zhi revealed some background information to Cai Haoyu, but he was rather vague about it, since he didn't know if he could persuade him later.
Hearing the words "commercialization" and "App Store," Cai Haoyu's interest was piqued, and he asked curiously, "What kind of game is it specifically?"
"It's super simple. Just swipe your finger on the phone screen to slice the fruit in half." Geng Zhi gestured in the air with his hand.
"Cut...fruit?" Cai Haoyu's expectation visibly faded. "That's it?"
"Yes."
He explained the core gameplay in a few straightforward words, without any concern that it would be copied.
The gameplay itself is no secret; the real competitive advantage lies in overseas distribution, operational details, and, crucially, the first-mover advantage.
"This...this is too easy! It's not exciting at all, and there's no challenge at all!" Cai Haoyu shook his head repeatedly after hearing this, clearly not very interested.
Geng Zhi tried to argue from the angles of "mild stress relief", "wide audience", and "potential hit", but Cai Haoyu remained unmoved and his face clearly showed his disapproval.
"I don't think this kind of game is fun or profitable. I'm not going to join in. Thanks, bro," Cai Haoyu said with a smile and a wave of his hand.
Seeing this, Geng Zhi knew that forcing things wouldn't work, so he stopped trying to persuade him.
As they parted, he patted Cai Haoyu on the shoulder and sincerely said, "I hope an investor who understands you will appear soon, and I wish your future projects great success!"
"Thank you for your kind words! I also wish your 'Chiao Tung University Matchmaker' project great success and profits soon!" Cai Haoyu replied with his blessings.
As he left the first canteen, Geng Zhi pushed the secondhand bicycle he had just bought yesterday, pondering his next move.
Cai Haoyu's path didn't work out, so it seems he'll have to go to the Computer Science Department to "mine" some resources as soon as possible.
As I was pondering this, a familiar voice sounded from behind me.
"Sigh, so straightforward!"
He turned around and saw Yang Ankang carrying a basketball, sweating profusely as he jogged toward the first canteen.
"Have you eaten?" Yang Ankang asked.
"Goodness, you fellow Jiangxi native, you've quite mastered the inverted sentences from Shandong province!" Geng Zhi laughed.
"Absolutely! You have to say the right thing to the right person!" Yang Ankang laughed smugly.
After exchanging a few jokes, they got straight to the point: "By the way, among your acquaintances in the computer science department, do you know anyone who can develop games? Like casual mobile games."
"A game?" Yang Ankang asked instinctively. "What are you going to do?"
"I'm looking for a reliable partner to take on a part-time game development job together."
"What?" Yang Ankang was even more confused. "Weren't you working on 'Jiaotong University Matchmaker'? It's really popular right now... Why are you getting interested in games again?"
"I'll take on two jobs, to support myself while I study." Geng Zhi had the honest look on his face. "My family is poor, so I need to earn more."
Yang Ankang was silent for two seconds, then surprisingly believed him, and immediately asked, "How much do you pay a day for that part-time job?"
"Between 120 and 180 Dragon Coins, depending on your ability, and there will probably be an interview required."
Yang Ankang pondered for a moment, his eyes flickering: "Actually, I also know a bit about game development, if..."
"You're no good." Geng Zhi interrupted him before he could finish, "None of the people in our 'Qi Family Army' are good enough."
Actually, it wasn't really because of the limitations of the sect, but mainly because Geng Zhi felt that Yang Ankang's personality was unconventional and didn't seem like someone who could settle down and bury himself in game development.
Yang Ankang was speechless, his eyes wide: "...Why?"
"We've both gone out to do part-time jobs, so who's going to work for Professor Qi in the future?" Geng Zhi said earnestly, as if it were the truth.
Yang Ankang shook his head and said, "So, in our year, I'm destined to be the only one working like a slave for the boss?"
"That's not necessarily true," Geng Zhi chuckled. "Didn't Professor Qi say that someone from Jiangcheng University also wants to apply to him?"
"Okay..." Yang Ankang sighed resignedly, then said seriously, "I do have a roommate from Yunnan Province who's really good at making games. But he's already interning at Dianping.com, so he probably doesn't have time to do part-time work with you."
"Did your roommate get an offer from Dianping during the campus recruitment?" Geng Zhi asked.
"No, not at all. He's technically very skilled. Last month during campus recruitment, he received offers from Baidu, Tencent, Shanda, Microsoft Research, Huawei... he was overwhelmed. He probably wouldn't be interested in Dianping."
"So, he's going to Dianping (a Chinese review platform) purely to earn some internship wages?"
"You could say that. But you definitely can't hire him; he earns 200 yuan a day on Dianping," Yang Ankang said with a laugh.
"Could you introduce me to him again? I'd like to talk to him," Geng Zhi insisted.
"Okay! Then you have to treat me to a meal." After saying that, Yang Ankang shook his head again, "Sigh, forget it, your family is also struggling, and you're still starting a business, so let's skip the meal."
"It's okay, I'll treat you to two meals." Geng Zhi's expression was serious. "One meal is to thank you for introducing me to my roommate; the other is for helping me with classes and taking notes after I started graduate school."
"..." Yang Ankang was taken aback by the reason for the second meal, but then he thought that Geng Zhi wouldn't be able to skip classes all the time, so he readily agreed, "Okay! It's a deal!"
"My roommate's name is Sun Xiaoguang. When he's free this weekend, the three of us can have a meal together and chat," Yang Ankang added.
"Sun Xiaoguang?" Geng Zhi felt the name sounded familiar. Remembering the enthusiastic college student at the roadshow, he asked, "Doesn't he have neat short hair and wear black-rimmed glasses?"
"Yes, you know him?" Yang Ankang asked curiously.
"I know him. His QQ username is 'A Meter of Sunshine,' right?"
"That's right!"
"Okay, then you don't need to introduce him anymore. I have his QQ number, so I don't need to treat him to the first meal." Geng Zhi waved his hand with a smile and pushed the cart away.
What?
Yang Ankang stood there, holding the basketball, watching Geng Zhi push the cart away, looking bewildered as if to say, "Did I get ripped off?"
Just as Geng Zhi straddled his bicycle, heading towards the science and technology park, the conversation between two girls next to him drifted into his ears:
"Qinqin, didn't you sign up for 'If You Are the One'?" a girl asked excitedly.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" asked the girl named Wang Qinqin.
"I just heard from my best friend in the QQ group that the anonymous couple ranking from 'If You Are the One' has been released and it's incredibly popular! Go check your couple ranking!"
Wang Qinqin exclaimed "Ah!" and immediately quickened her pace, jogging towards the dormitory area.
Upon hearing this, Geng Zhi smiled slightly, pushed off with his foot, and sped off on his bicycle toward the science and technology park.
