Chapter 56 Deceiving Larry
Chapter 56 Deceiving Larry
The Mercedes stopped again in front of the Bogart Manor, where the party was still in full swing, with loud music and laughter that could be clearly heard even through the gate.
Zik got out of the car first and tossed the car keys to Marco, who was smoking at the door: "Marco, you drive back to the cliff cabin first and load all the ornamental plants into the car, don't forget a single one. After you're done, pick up Tino from the hotel and then contact me. I'll be at Holly's tonight."
Marco caught the car keys, scratched his head, and said, "What? Zeke, what are you doing moving all that stuff in the middle of the night?"
Zik lowered his voice: "Don't ask too many questions. I've received word that the police might come to search the cliffside cabin. Those things need to lay low for a while."
"Shit!" Marco panicked instantly and didn't dare to ask any more questions. He quickly nodded and said, "I'll go right away."
Zeke turned around, opened the passenger door, and reached out to help Judy out of the car: "Holly and the Spiders are friends I trust. They've rented a big house in Beverly Hills, it's safe there. You can stay there for a few days."
Judy's body trembled slightly, whether from excitement or fear, she nodded vigorously and gripped his hand tightly: "I believe you, Zeke, I'll be waiting for you there."
Marco hurriedly got into the car, and the Mercedes sped away.
Zidane grabbed Judy and strode into the manor, weaving through the revelry, and soon found Holly chatting idly with the Casablanca-affiliated Angels band.
Holly, wearing a leather jacket and holding a beer, frowned immediately when she saw Zeke and Judy approaching.
"Where did you go? I've been looking for you for ages! I thought you'd left me behind and gone!"
Zeke felt a pang of embarrassment; he had almost abandoned Holly and left with Judy earlier.
"Sorry, Holly, I need your help with something. Come with me first, I'll explain later."
Holly saw that he looked serious and didn't seem to be joking, so she didn't press him further and nodded to greet the members of the Angels band.
"Have you seen Larry?" Zeke asked.
"Over by the pool."
The three of them walked towards the poolside. He was looking for Larry Harris. Excluding the Neils, only Larry could help him temporarily withstand Evelyn's pressure and buy him time to break the deadlock.
Larry was also one of the company executives he was most confident he could persuade, not only because he had leverage over him, but also because, in Zeke's view, the guy was not very serious, but he always had a certain bottom line.
Larry also served as the head of the rock department during the early stages of the company and had close personal relationships with a large number of FM radio stations and rock stars. However, according to TJ, Larry always maintained a relatively "clean" image in that more decadent circle and never touched the baby groups that revolved around rock bands.
Of course, Zeke wasn't entirely sure, since it was quite possible that the girls didn't find Larry, who looked like a high school teacher, cool enough, especially when he was with rock stars like KISS.
Now that things have come to this, he has no choice but to take a gamble.
From afar, they saw Larry leaning against a table by the pool, a cigarette dangling from his fingers, his eyes glazed over, a silly grin on his face as he watched a few girls frolicking and playing in the pool.
Zeke strode over and patted Larry on the shoulder forcefully.
"Larry, I need your help! It's urgent, extremely urgent!"
Larry slowly turned his head, stared at Zeke for a while, and then mumbled, "What? I don't know you... Don't bother me, can't you see I'm busy?"
"SHIT!" Zeke couldn't help but curse under his breath, inwardly anxious.
Larry is completely high and not thinking straight; there's no way to communicate with him like this.
His mind raced, and he looked at the girls in the pool.
Marco had told him about these girls; they were "party girls" specially hired by the company to entertain guests, and they generally didn't mind earning some pocket money.
Zik pulled a banknote from his pocket, held it high, and shouted to the girls in the pool:
"Whoever can wake him up the fastest gets the $20!"
"I'll do it!" As soon as the words were spoken, a hot girl in a bikini climbed out of the pool, her hair wet, water droplets sliding down her graceful curves.
"Hey~baby, it's time to wake up."
She grabbed Larry's head, who was still grinning foolishly, and pressed it hard against her chest, shaking it swiftly and decisively.
"Holy shit..."
Zeke was amazed, realizing that the girls on the West Coast were indeed fierce.
Is this the legendary face wash...? Wow, it's so voluminous... Larry got a real bargain.
Judy lowered her head shyly, while Holly watched Larry's spectacle with a mocking expression.
The girl held Larry's head against her chest and washed it for a while, but Larry still smiled like a fool, his eyes unfocused, and drool was almost dripping from the corner of his mouth.
Without hesitation, she turned around, grabbed the chilled milk from the bar, and chug it down Larry's throat. The two large cartons of milk were gone in no time. Larry's face turned bright red instantly. He shoved the girl away, staggered to the bushes beside him, bent over, and vomited a large amount. The pungent smell instantly filled the air.
The air around the pool suddenly became very unpleasant, and people nearby frowned and moved away.
A disheveled man and woman emerged from the bushes, their hair messy and their faces contorted with disgust. The man, while fastening his pants, cursed at Larry's retreating figure, "Fuck you, Larry! At least go to the toilet! You almost threw up all over us!"
The two hurriedly straightened their clothes and walked away quickly.
Fortunately, after all that commotion, Larry did become much more sober and stopped grinning like an idiot. However, he was still a little pale, clutching his chest, looking dazed and confused.
"Thanks." Zeke readily handed the girl the $20 in his hand.
The girl took the money, stuffed it into her bikini, winked at Zeke, and said with a smile, "Remember to call me next time there's something like this."
Zik helped Larry slowly to his feet, patted him on the back, and leaned close to his ear, deliberately feigning nervousness.
"Larry, something's happened. The ornamental plants at the cliffside cabin are going to be destroyed. The police are coming to search the place, and your stockpile might be discovered."
"What!" Larry, who was still a little dazed, was instantly terrified, his voice changing trembling. His eyes cleared instantly. "Damn it, Zeke, come with me and throw all that stuff away!"
"Give me the car keys. How can you drive like this, drunk? It'll only cause more trouble if the police pull you over."
Seeing Larry panicking so much, even his eyes cleared up, Zeke chuckled inwardly.
Indeed, it is only when one's own interests are threatened that people are brought to their senses most quickly.
"Yes, yes, you drive, you drive!" Larry hurriedly pulled the car keys from his pocket and shoved them into Zeke's hand, his voice urgent, as if he wanted to fly to the cliffside cabin immediately. "Quick, don't waste time, if those things are found, I'm finished!"
Zeke took the car keys, helped Larry into the passenger seat, and then let Judy and Holly sit in the back.
It wasn't until Larry's Mercedes drove onto Sunset Boulevard and the surrounding scenery gradually became familiar that Larry belatedly realized what was happening.
He frowned and asked, "Um, Zeke, wait a minute, this isn't the way to the cliffside cabin. Also, how did you know in advance that the police would be searching? Did you already know something?"
