Chapter 534 - 506: Returning to Her Family (Part 6)
(Extra Chapter for monthly votes 2)Jack Hawthorne also noticed something off in Gage Grant’s eyes.
Usually, Gage despised these folk singers. Every time they went to a bar and heard someone singing folk songs, he would invariably curse them for whining without reason.
But at this moment, he was completely focused on the female singer on stage.
His eyes were smiling, and his lips curled into a wicked grin, with a slightly greasy look in his eyes.
"Damn!" Jack leaned over, following Gage’s gaze to the stage, "Do you like this sticky song or that pink-haired girl?"
Gage smiled and said, "Isn’t it pleasant?"
"Haha," Jack dug his ear in disbelief, "You went out at noon to light a cigarette for someone. You think I didn’t see?"
Gage smiled without saying anything.
Jack leaned close to his ear and whispered, "Fourth Young Master Grant, lighting a cigarette for someone willingly? You’re in heat!"
"Never dated someone like this, can’t I try?"
Since his childhood friend guessed right, Gage didn’t hide it anymore. He laughed more freely, having already thrown Simon Forrester and Tobias Blackwood’s warnings out of his mind.
Jack turned to look at Maeve on the stage, remembering her wild look during the day, and laughed, "This pink-haired girl is like an iron board; can you handle it?"
Gage still focused intently on Maeve, smiling confidently, "If she’s an iron board, then I’m a laser cutter..."
.
"This light song for you~ Makes you remember him~ I’ll hold you forever~ Tell them~ I’ll miss you too~"
Maeve finished the last note and looked up at Sienna Thornton in the audience, giving her a smile.
Sienna was moved to tears as she listened. When Maeve came down from the stage, she lifted her gown and went forward to hug Maeve.
Maeve held a guitar in one hand, embraced her with the other, and lightly patted her half-exposed back, kissing her cheek with teary eyes.
Simon Forrester’s face turned completely dark, just about to step forward to separate the two, when Sienna reluctantly returned, sniffing.
Sienna’s high school homeroom teacher saw this and chuckled to Quentin Thorne, "Sienna and Maeve have been desk mates for three years in high school, inseparable all the time, with a great relationship! Now, seeing they’re both doing well, we teachers are truly happy!"
Quentin nodded, smiling as he looked at Maeve heading to another table, "I know Joy helped Annie a lot before. Finding such a soulmate in life is truly a blessing!"
Simon was using tissues to wipe Sienna’s tears. Hearing Quentin say that, his face turned sour again, and he whispered in Sienna’s ear, "Hugging and holding each other in public, what kind of propriety is that?!"
Sienna, still caught up in her emotions, ignored him.
Simon grumbled a few more lines into her ear before his expression finally eased.
.
The banquet reached halfway, and the newlyweds went upstairs to change into their toasting attire.
The bride’s toasting dress today was a nude-colored sheer gown, adorned with purple flower petals and diamonds, while the groom’s suit was a fitted dark gray two-piece with a light pink French shirt underneath.
All in all, it was meant to match, making them look like a couple.
While changing his shirt, Simon said, "These past three days, I’ve worn colors I thought I’d never wear in my life."
He spread his five fingers, counting carefully, "Bright red, dark red, burgundy, purple! Just short of not having pink on me!"
Sienna was helping him button up, tie his tie, and adjust his pocket square. Hearing his complaint, she burst into laughter and said, "The wedding gift from Aurora for us is supposedly a set of pink couple pajamas. I’ll wash it tomorrow and bring it to Yorai to wear!"
Originally at a loss, Simon, thinking of the trip to Yorai, laughed and leaned into Sienna, "But in front of you, I can wear it..."
Sienna wrapped her arms around his neck, looked up at him, and retorted, "In front of me, are you shameless then?"
As she said this, she adjusted his pocket square, having taken care of his outfit.
Simon lifted her up to sit on the dressing table behind him, kissing her ear softly, "Whether face or no face, I’m yours..."
.
The newlyweds changed and went downstairs to start toasting with the bride’s parents, table by table.
Accompanied by bridesmaids, groomsmen, and the groom’s top ten guys, they held their wine glasses, thanking guests one by one for attending the homecoming banquet.
The groom held the bride’s waist, protecting her as they led the way.
Quentin also lightly encircled Melinda Linton with his arm, following the newlyweds, occasionally whispering for her to just pretend to drink.
Their occasional whispers would easily make anyone unaware mistake them for a couple.
The Thorne family’s relatives and Quentin’s colleagues and friends were clearly more curious about Melinda Linton. With curious eyes, they scrutinized her to find out what kind of woman could make Quentin forsake everything to return home and break off an engagement with the Grant Family back then, causing the Grant Family’s eldest daughter to grudgingly accept Quentin to host his illegitimate daughter’s homecoming banquet.
Everyone had heard rumors that Ian Grant had been living with her maiden family for several months. Seeing how cautiously and attentively Quentin treated Melinda tonight, they all thought Mrs. Thorne’s position might be changing...
After all, Quentin, with Ian at any event in the past, never treated Ian with such public care...
Though Quentin was generally affable, he was actually proud and stern, particular about his image, and somewhat chauvinistic. To treat a woman like this publicly must mean he couldn’t help himself...
.
After finishing toasting twenty-five tables, Quentin led his daughter, son-in-law, and a group of groomsmen to socialize with his beer-loving colleagues and friends.
He didn’t avoid stating that Sienna was his eldest daughter, born out of marriage with Melinda, who now has returned to the Thorne Family, becoming part of it.
He also introduced to his old colleagues and friends that Sienna currently works in the Treaty and Law Department and, if needed in the future, asked for their support and guidance.
Quentin’s open attitude surprised everyone, who found the always aloof High Court president’s frankness endearing, and they readily promised Sienna would have their help whenever needed!
Having expanded Sienna’s network while entertaining old colleagues, Quentin also remembered to thank those who had helped Sienna before and treated her kindly.
Going from table to table, he offered sincere gratitude to Sienna’s guests for extending a loving hand to his daughter back then, ensuring she grew into a healthy, optimistic, and cheerful girl despite difficult circumstances.
Speaking to the point of emotion, his eyes welled up.
Seeing Melinda also in tears, Quentin, already somewhat drunk, panicked and wiped her tears away with his fingertip.
"Alright, alright, don’t cry. Our daughter is doing great now! She will be now and in the future! Our son-in-law is promising! Our whole family will be well..."
