Chapter 687: Dao An, Hold Me
Chapter 687: Dao An, Hold Me
After coming out of the restaurant, Dao An didn’t leave immediately. The low-profile Gust was parked not far away.
The car window was half-open, and he looked in the direction of the restaurant entrance, waiting for that graceful figure to appear in his view again.
Jane had long noticed the unusual behavior of the man beside her, a stark contrast from his usual conduct. It had to be because of that celebrity just now. But Jane couldn’t figure out the exact nature of their relationship?
After all, at first, Ann didn’t recognize that celebrity, did he?
Or, perhaps, Ann actually saw that celebrity from the start...
Many doubts flashed through Jane’s mind. She knew why the man wasn’t leaving, and this reason was quickly confirmed.
The man beside her suddenly sat up straight, and the window was lowered a bit more.
Jane followed the man’s gaze and looked over to see the restaurant’s door being opened by a waiter, and the person who came out was indeed that celebrity.
Behind the celebrity was a waiter holding a bouquet of roses for her.
As they emerged, the waiter personally escorted the celebrity to the car that came to pick her up, then placed the large bouquet of roses inside. The celebrity took a few bills from her purse and handed them to the waiter, who nodded probably to say thank you, then turned and went inside.
Until the celebrity also got into the car.
Jane’s gaze followed the car as it drove off before turning back to look at the man beside her, who had already withdrawn his gaze at some point.
"Ann, dinner was delightful tonight." Jane deliberately sought to divert the man’s attention by placing her hand on his shoulder, as if she was about to lean her whole body against him.
"Jane."
The man called her English name.
Jane arched those beautiful thin brows, unsure why she particularly enjoyed this moment when the man called her name. His deep voice and the pronunciation as he uttered her name were especially captivating to her.
She gazed almost devoutly at the man’s profile, waiting for what he would say next.
But what she awaited was the man removing her hand and pushing the car door open to get out.
Jane was momentarily dumbfounded, only snapping back to reality as the car door closed with a "bang."
The car window was still half-open, and she heard Ann’s voice instructing the driver ahead, "Take Jane home first, I have some matters to attend to."
The driver was Dao An’s private driver, naturally following the boss’s orders.
Jane looked up at the man outside the car window, probing directly, "The matters you mentioned, are you going to see that celebrity?"
Dao An cast a faint glance at Jane inside the car, "Jane, this is my private business, mind your limits."
"You..." Jane was at a loss for words.
Realizing she had indeed almost overstepped boundaries.
Even though she was unwilling and reluctant, for now, this was all she could do. She couldn’t do anything too disgraceful to make Ann dislike her too much.
Jane quickly settled her emotions and said "See you" to the man standing outside before telling the driver, "Let’s go."
Gust drove off shortly after.
Another gray sedan slowly approached and stopped not far in front of Dao An.
Dao An stepped forward, opened the rear car door, and got in, "Head towards Ninth Avenue."
The direction Sheng Yi’s car had left was Ninth Avenue. The car had been gone for several minutes, and Dao An didn’t know if he could still catch up. But then he thought, even if he did catch up, so what, what right did he have?!
A few minutes into the drive, the car merged into the traffic flow, seemingly losing all direction.
It wasn’t a taxi; he hadn’t even managed to see the license plate of that car.
Gone.
He simply couldn’t find it.
’Bang—’ The man’s fist hit the car window, making a dull thud, filled with repression.
The driver asked, "Sir, where to next?"
The window wasn’t open, the air pressure inside was too stifling. The driver was somewhat worried about the man in the backseat, who seemed in a very bad mood, not knowing what had happened to him.
After a long time, the driver heard the man’s voice come from the backseat, it sounded deep and somewhat hoarse, "Back to Xifeng."
Xifeng was the apartment where Dao An currently lived.
It was also the property he had purchased there.
"Yes, sir."
The car adjusted its navigation.
...
Under the deep night, the vehicle sped down the wide avenue, beams of light from floodlights scattered over the racing car, penetrating through the windows, sweeping across the man’s profile.
Dao An realized that whenever he closed his eyes, all he saw in his mind was Sheng Yi’s face.
Among those images, there were mostly smiles, sometimes playfully blinking her almond-shaped eyes, her pink cheeks adorably puffed. She always loved making such expressions.
