Chapter 1218: On the Way Back
Chapter 1218: On the Way Back
Xia Yinian turned her head and met the man’s gaze, and her mood finally lifted a little. If something had happened to her today, then wouldn’t Beicheng’s whole trip have been for nothing?
The mighty procession finally returned to the Feng Family.
Thinking of the documents in her bag, then of Xia Qiangwei’s words and her own man, Xia Yinian hadn’t planned to bring it up now.
At the very least, she’d wait until Beicheng came back.
When Xia Yinian got out of the car, Feng Yan was already standing not far away.
"I’m sorry!" She took a few steps toward him, lowered her head, and said softly.
If she hadn’t insisted on going out, the other side would never have had the chance to make a move, and they wouldn’t have wasted so much manpower and resources.
More importantly, they still didn’t know how many Brothers had been injured over this.
But if she thought about doing it all over again, she would still make the same choice.
No matter what, at least she now knew her true identity.
Feng Yan didn’t speak, and Xia Yinian lifted her eyes to glance at him.
This was her own Brother; it seemed she’d always been hoping for this before, and she hadn’t expected it to actually come true.
She really, really wanted to go over and hug him, and call him "Third Brother" in a close, affectionate way.
If she’d known, she wouldn’t have changed how she addressed him back then. Now that she wanted to call him that again, the words stuck in her throat instead.
Xia Yinian parted her lips slightly, and just as she was about to say something, Feng Yan finally spoke.
"The crisis has been resolved. It’s enough that you’re okay."
Xia Yinian frowned and asked softly, "The crisis... resolved?"
"Mm." Feng Yan inclined his head. "I received word that the buyer has already canceled this assassination operation. You were frightened—go back and get some rest."
As soon as the words fell, Feng Yan turned and walked inside.
Xia Yinian still remembered what Feng Yan had said about the Black Shadow Organization. The assassination being called off meant that the buyer had actively canceled it.
"So that means Beicheng managed to find the person who wanted me dead. You have news about Beicheng, don’t you?"
Thinking of her man, she chased after him in a rush.
"Ah Yen, you have news about Beicheng, don’t you? Don’t you?"
"Yes." Feng Yan replied in a low voice.
Hearing the unusual note in his tone, Xia Yinian felt as if something had stabbed straight into her heart.
"H-how is he?"
"He’s on his way back," Feng Yan’s voice sounded again. "Go back and rest for a while. When he gets here, I’ll take you to see him."
Feng Yan’s pace didn’t slow at all just because someone was hurrying after him.
But Xia Yinian came to a halt.
Staring at his receding back, she bit her lip hard, too anxious to get the words out.
Beicheng was definitely injured, and... it probably wasn’t light.
Ah Yen was anxious too; even if she asked now, she wouldn’t get any real answers.
After quite a while, Xia Yinian finally moved forward again.
She didn’t go back to rest, but stayed by the Old Master’s side the whole time, until Feng Yan came over to find her.
"The plane should be almost here. Let’s go." Feng Yan’s voice sounded behind Xia Yinian.
Xia Yinian released the Old Master’s hand, stood up, and turned to look at him.
She let out a light sigh and nodded.
"Oh, right—try not to let Xia Chuxue come back these two days."
"Yiheng went over the surveillance from the day Grandpa fell ill again and again. He thinks Grandpa’s condition at the time wasn’t quite what we originally thought."
"You mean, Grandpa didn’t have an attack because he was missing Chuxue?" Feng Yan’s thick brows knit slightly.
"Maybe... there’s another possibility. He can’t say for sure yet. I’m just giving you a heads-up, just in case." Xia Yinian replied.
