Chapter 685 - 656: Still Husband and Wife in the Next Life
Chapter 685 - 656: Still Husband and Wife in the Next Life
Due to postpartum mood issues, difficulties in eating and sleeping, Mina Thorne almost had no breast milk, and the baby mostly relied on formula in the early days.Seth Sutton didn’t allow Mrs. Sutton to visit the maternity center, but Mrs. Sutton would occasionally call her son to ask if Mina had enough breast milk, only to be scolded by Seth each time.
Mina felt anxious every day because she couldn’t breastfeed her child. Sienna Thornton tried to comfort her several times with little effect, so she asked Auntie King to contact a fellow villager who had recently given birth.
With the consent of Seth and Mina, she arranged for the woman to undergo a medical examination to ensure she was healthy, then had her regularly pump and store a certain amount of breast milk, which Chandler would collect and deliver daily to Mina.
The breast pump, storage bottles, and refrigerator—all were carefully selected and bought by Sienna Thornton, who also personally taught the woman how to pump and store breast milk.
Once the issue of breast milk was resolved, Mina’s condition improved significantly. Relieved, Sienna visited her less often, only checking in on weekends or when available to see if she needed anything.
When the baby turned a month old, the Sutton Family hosted a banquet at a hotel in Brimfield to entertain guests.
As the bride’s family, Sienna Thornton and her family of three attended along with Quentin Thorne and his wife and were seated at the same table as Old Master Grant, Gage Grant, and Ingrid Grant and her family.
Sienna Thornton felt uneasy seeing The Grant Family due to an earlier confrontation with Old Master Grant around New Year’s. However, Old Master Grant smiled warmly as if he had forgotten the grievances from half a year ago.
Simon Forrester and Gage Grant chatted away, with Ronan Grant sticking close to the two older brothers; Quentin Thorne played with little Victor; Sienna Thornton conversed with Melinda Linton and Ingrid Grant; Old Master Grant chatted with his son-in-law and occasionally with others at the table; the atmosphere was harmonious.
However, towards the end of the banquet, a sudden argument broke out between Mina Thorne and Mrs. Sutton.
Old Master Grant noticed the commotion and ordered directly, "Fourth and Fifth, go and see what’s happening!"
Gage Grant and Ronan Grant immediately put down what they were doing and headed toward the main table. Sienna Thornton and Quentin Thorne quickly followed.
"I didn’t say anything to her! I just mentioned she didn’t exercise during pregnancy, the baby was too big, leading to postpartum hemorrhage and lack of breast milk. I wasn’t blaming her!..."
When they arrived, Mrs. Sutton was still explaining to her husband and son.
Mina Thorne sat nearby, holding the child and crying, broken dishes scattered on the floor.
Mr. Sutton looked down in silence.
Seth Sutton looked grim, shielding his wife and child behind him.
Quentin Thorne stepped forward, pulling Seth Sutton aside to face Mrs. Sutton directly, "What happened?"
Mrs. Sutton repeated her earlier explanation.
Sienna Thornton, enraged upon hearing this, approached Mrs. Sutton and sternly said, "Mrs. Sutton, you’re not a doctor, please don’t make reckless judgments! Consider the mother’s feelings and don’t hurt your innocent daughter-in-law just to have the last word! Mina hasn’t done anything wrong!"
"I didn’t say she did anything wrong! But it’s a fact she doesn’t have milk for the child! Now they have to buy breast milk, which wouldn’t have been necessary to waste money on..."
Sienna Thornton replied, "I’m the one buying the breast milk; you don’t need to worry about the money."
Mrs. Sutton was at a loss for words, snorted, and turned her face away.
Mr. Sutton stood up to pull his wife away.
At this moment, Old Master Grant, supported by Ingrid Grant and her husband, walked over with a stern face, "Fourth, what happened?"
Gage Grant coldly glanced at Mrs. Sutton and repeated her earlier remarks.
Hearing this, Old Master Grant slammed his cane on the ground and scolded Mr. and Mrs. Sutton, "You’re in your fifties, saying such nonsense? Our granddaughter doesn’t need you to meddle!"
After saying this, the elderly man went to take Mina’s hand, "Mina, get up, come home with Grandfather! Fourth, pick up the child! Fifth, get your sister’s bag!"
Gage Grant went to take the baby from Mina’s arms, Ronan Grant handled Mina’s bag, and Old Master Grant took his granddaughter’s hand, ready to leave.
Quentin Thorne and Sienna Thornton returned to their seats to grab their coats and bags, gathering their family to leave the hotel.
Seth Sutton cast a dark look at his parents, grabbed his coat, and followed them out.
Only then did Mrs. Sutton realize the seriousness of the situation, sat back down, and muttered, "Even with Zachary Grant out of power, that old man Grant is still so tough..."
Mr. Sutton shook his head, "Zachary Grant may be out of power, but Quentin Thorne and his eldest daughter aren’t. You, watch what you say! Don’t think Zachary Grant’s downfall means you can... sigh!"
Because the banquet was ending, most guests were unaware of the conflict and assumed Mina left with her family. Mr. and Mrs. Sutton had to see the guests off themselves.
Once out of the banquet hall and in the elevator, Old Master Grant turned his cane on Seth Sutton, scolding, "Scoundrel! Seeing your mom bully Mina, you don’t say a word?! What’s the use of you, you scoundrel?!"
As he spoke, he wanted to hit Seth Sutton again, but Gage Grant stopped him.
Mina tearfully explained, "Seth stood up for me; it’s just that his mom was over the line, not listening to anyone’s words..."
Old Master Grant snorted, his eyes wide, shouting at Seth Sutton, "Keep your parents out of Mina’s and the baby’s affairs. If I catch it happening again, I’ll beat you to death first!"
Seth Sutton hung his head and said nothing.
Mina, still crying, reached to hold his hand, and he clasped hers back, smiling at her, "I’ll find an opportunity to talk to my mom. It’s okay; if it comes to it, we just won’t let her come over, and we won’t visit her either."
Once they reached the parking lot, Old Master Grant, still worried, joined Quentin Thorne in sending Mina and Seth home, while the others returned to their own homes.
After dropping Melinda Linton at her apartment, on the way back to Fenmore Hill, Sienna Thornton sighed, "I really didn’t see Mrs. Sutton as that kind of person."
Simon Forrester chuckled, "Before marriage, everyone is polite. Once a child is born, differences in parenting views can easily lead to conflict if there’s no mutual understanding and tolerance."
"I really hope things will be peaceful in the future; otherwise, I’ll be worried too." Sienna Thornton shook her head, laughing, "No wonder Ian Grant told me to take good care of Mina in the future; he probably foresaw this day."
"During Mina Thorne’s pregnancy and delivery, you’ve done so much for her. Without you, her situation would have been much worse."
Sienna Thornton smiled, "Are you trying to say that having me as a sister is a blessing?"
Simon Forrester, focused on driving, glanced at her through the rearview mirror, "I’d like to have a sister like you too."
"Sure. Then in the next life, I’ll be reborn as your sister."
"No way, in the next life I still want us to be married."
"Then you’ll miss the chance to have a sister like me."
"No worries, the next time you feel like scolding me, just pretend you’re my sister."
"Oh, then I’d probably want to beat you up."
